Dissolving Memoirs

My name is Stéphane Zagdanski. I was born in 1963, in Paris. My first book was published in 1991, and for more than 25 years now, I did mainly one thing : writing, and writing, and writing, and writing…
From 1991 to 2012, I wrote 18 books : novels, essays, short stories, memoirs…
All my writings were about one obsession : writing.
In 2013, I decided to bring my writing mania to another artistic level. During three years, I composed a calligraphic novel named RARE, handwriting each page of my story on many supports : papers, canvas, stones, walls, humans, etc.
This monumental text, made of 100 pieces of art, was exhibited for three weeks in September 2016 in a great Parisian gallery.
After the exhibition of RARE, my art took a new turn and my «paintwritings» became less readable. I call this new style,in French : «mes Mandalas de mots».
Mandalas are Tibetan traditional spiritual artworks made with coloured sand. Drawing and praying are one practice. As soon as a sand mandala is composed, it is entirely dissolved.
I love the idea of the visible made invisible again.
For my paintings, they are only made of words. Words on words on words on words on words… in such a manner that they dissolve into themselves.
Twenty years ago exactly, in 1997, my Memoirs were published in Paris. It was a kind of «Portrait of a young man as a writer», written in many short paragraphs, 533 exactly.
My new ambitious project consists of dissolving my Memoirs into 533 different drawings and paintings.
